Reading can be a difficult task if an article contains too much grammatical errors. I have come across some reading materials up to a point of having no idea what the writer intended to convey in his or her article. I do have grammatical errors too. Sometimes I just don’t realize them even after reading what I write over and over.
I like to view blogging as an informal medium for communication. But being informal doesn’t mean that I should go all I like and neglect about the importance of grammar. The least that I can to do is to make sure that you, as my reader, understand and can make sense of what I am writing about.
For just about any purpose or style of writing, you may want to consider the use of writing enhancement software. It is an editing application that extends your word processor’s ability to detect and correct grammatical errors. It is a tool that helps you check and correct various problems related to writing such as spelling, grammar, clarity or precision, wordy phrases, redundancy, passive verb, overused words, adverb and adjective.
The reasons why you should use writing enhancement software include:
- Grammar and syntax correction – to identify and rectify common problems that are often overlooked by the word processor. An example would be the wrong usage of the word “affect” and “effect”.
- Editorial comments – useful notations that go beyond correcting mistakes. They come with helpful tips and explanation to aid understanding so that errors can be reduced through frequent use of the software.
- Templates – templates are pre-structured documents that you can use to start writing. They are designed for various categories such as memos for business writings and essays for students.
- Overused words – sometimes you don’t realize that you keep on repeating the use of same word or phrase when you write. The editing software should be able to provide you with alternatives to make your writing more interesting to the readers.
- Reference materials – additional feature that you can use as a quick reference such as grammar guide, thesaurus and dictionaries. They should contain more than what your word processor could handle.
If you plan to get a writing enhancement software, be sure that it is compatible with your operating system. You need to know how it works – it can be used as a stand-alone application or used internally within your word processor. Also, check other matters such as licensing, feedback, upgrade options, help and support from the developer.
No matter how good the contents of your blog are, having too many grammatical errors would discourage your readers to read and at the same time will reflect your mastery to communicate with clarity. Writing enhancement software can help, but would not be necessary if you have a basic working knowledge of your language in relation to blogging. Construct simple to understand sentences, avoid the use of jargons and you should be fine in your effort to reach out more readers.
